Midnight Play Fit

We're not sure if it's because of the nap he took during Blade Runner or because he made a serious poop outside, but Herzog has been having a play frenzy for the last 15 minutes. Nothing is safe from his rambunctious puppy energy!

I don't like cameras! Grrrrrrr.

Herzog tried to attack my camera. He usually isn't very barky, but this got him all fired up.

Herzog had a bit of an upset belly all day yesterday, so by nighttime he smelled... well, less than great. We decided to give him a little bit of a wash down in the sink.

I won't name names, but last night someone whimpered and sobbed in their kennel in a heartbreaking manner for hours until we changed locations and told them soothing stories.

Herzog's first day

After pooping everywhere and drinking some water, Herzog wanted to play!

At first he was more interested in my sleeve than in either of his toys.

I eventually convinced him that Tiger was more fun to chew on than my hoodie... Temporarily, at least.

We got him!

Jon and I got up early this morning and headed out to pick up the pup! When we arrived, we were given the option of taking "Creampuff" or his brother "Zoro." I was momentarily tempted by Zoro's pudgy little face, but then Creampuff crawled in to my lap for snuggles and Zoro tried to eat the metal clasps on my purse, so the choice was made easy.

We had brought the crate with us, planning to put Creampuff Herzog in there with his blanket and lobster friend, for the ride home. Unfortunately for Mr. Lobster, that was not to be. Herzog promptly pooped everywhere in terror as we pulled out of the driveway. Jon pulled over and we jumped out, him to scoop the puppy out of the cage and me to run back to ask the breeder for paper towels.

She and her husband came running out to help, and we quickly cleaned up Herzog/his cage; they traded blankets with us for one that wasn't covered in poop. Unfortunately Mr. Lobster, was too far gone to save, and had to be discarded. I guess Herzog isn't a fan of crustaceans. Jon will have to get Herzog a new special toy to keep at his house.

Re-bundled in to the cage, we tried to leave again, but Herzog began crying so mournfully that we decided to let him sit on my lap for the drive. I know, I know, that's bad, but he looked so scared, it would have felt cruel to leave him in the cage at that point. He quickly fell asleep on my lap and stayed there until we got back to my house.

Then he pooped on the floor. This is going to be a long week.

Puppy Supplies

Some things that we bought in preparation for Herzog's arrival. I couldn't resist getting the collar made up for him from DogGoneNice's Etsy shop; I'm sure that it's going to be far too big for him, so we got a little blue collar, too.

Not pictured: crate, kibble, door blockers, fuzzy lobster that will live at "dad's" house.

Puppy Preview

A photo that the breeder sent us of "Creampuff," soon to be named the more manly and awesome "Herzog." Puppy pick up day cannot come soon enough.
